Averydale Mutual Water Company in Lancaster, CA is seeking F/T, Water System Operator
Salary DOE; Team Player A Must
Under the general supervision of the Board of Directors to inspect, monitor and operate water production and treatment equipment necessary to maintain a safe and adequate water supply throughout the water distribution system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide courteous and expeditious customer service to our customers
•Inspect, monitor, make adjustments to and control the water production and treatment equipment
•Inspect, maintain and clean; production and treatment equipment to State Heath Standards
•Checks and maintains oil levels and changes in turbines
•Collects and documents the water levels and production information by monitoring the flow at various points in the system on both Sites
•Adjusts chlorination levels as needed
•Reads and records; pressures, water table readings, and other information
•MIOX system knowledge desired
•Acts in accordance with regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and performs related work as required
•Meter reading for billing on a monthly basis
•Water service shut-offs and Return to service assignments
•Exercise valves; flushing of fire hydrants, dead-end lines and water storage tanks
•Basic plumbing: Change out meters and minor water line repairs
•Perform both scheduled and emergency shutdowns of water mains and lines
•Drives a company vehicle in the course of daily duties
•Maintains the grounds at both Sites
•Operates hand and portable power tools when necessary
•Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards company directions and goals
•Any other duties assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the position.
A typical combination includes: Knowledge of;
•Mathematics applicable to Water Treatment
•Methods of water distribution and treatment; water purification and testing
•Water production and pressure maintenance
•Equipment, materials and terminology used in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, generators, pressure regulating devices and tanks
•Computer operating systems and SCADA Systems
•Theory and principles of electrically driven pumps, their output relative to their type and electrical power consumption
•Operation experience of large construction equipment (backhoes, etc.) helpful but not required
•Appropriate safety precautions and procedures
ABILITY TO
•Maintain detailed records
•Exercise judgment in determining necessary water production levels
•Determine the effect of weather/seasons on water levels and distribution rates
•Make adjustments to equipment in response to water demand and supply
•Prepare and maintain written reports, paperwork and logs
•Operate company vehicle safely while observing legal and defensive driving
•Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
•Fluently speak, read and write in English
•Adhere to and comply with safety standards and the proper use of safety equipment
•Routinely climb ladders and stairs
•Work in a variety of environmental conditions
•Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
•Work under moderate or high-stress conditions
•Maintain a driving record that meets vehicle code standards and is acceptable to the Department and its insurance carrier
•Work varying shifts (to include split shifts)
•Spanish speaking helpful but not required
•Plan your work within given time frames and/or situations is necessary
•Respond to after-hours emergency calls
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
•Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required
•One year of experience in water treatment and water production preferred
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
•Must have and maintain a State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Issued Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 certificate. You will be required to submit a copy of certification at the time of interview.
•Must have and maintain a State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Issued Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 certificate. You will be required to submit a copy of certification at the time of interview.
•Must possess a valid California, Class "C" driver's license. Note: For out-of-state applicants, a valid driver's license issued by your state is required, and a valid California Class "C" driver's license must be obtained within ten days of appointment
PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
•There is frequent need to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, kneel, bend, lift and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday
•Must be able to see in the normal visual range with vision sufficient to read printed documents, small print and computer screens (with or without corrective lenses)
•Must be able to hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction
